Boston-based Anemoia are developing a distinctive sound they call murky-pop — melodic, atmospheric music with darker edges, sharp lyrical detail and arrangements that resist easy genre labels.

The five-piece brings together Hannah Rose, Trip Way, Krissy Mehegan, Jake Mitchell and Jacob Tessier, with Hannah’s original songwriting forming the foundation for a sound developed collectively by the band.

Early releases including “Anemoia” and “Enviro-Maniac” introduce a band with a strong musical identity: memorable songs, layered arrangements and an instinct for moving between moods without settling neatly into one genre.

County Louth musician Brendan McCreanor is an uilleann piper, whistle player and singer whose work is rooted in Irish tradition but has consistently pushed beyond its boundaries. He is a founding member of contemporary folk group Kern, whose two albums False Deceiver and The Left and the Leaving were produced by Lúnasa bassist Trevor Hutchinson.

With Kern, Brendan has performed internationally across Europe and North America, including appearances at Celtic Connections, Other Voices, Folk Alliance International and Milwaukee Irish Fest. His playing has been described as both modern and deeply rooted in tradition.

That curiosity has also taken him beyond conventional Irish folk: Brendan has worked across rock, pop and classical projects and is a member of Baile An Salsa, whose music brings traditional Irish music together with Latin rhythms.
